Paris Fashion Week: Monochrome and a 50 Kilo Dress for Stéphane Rolland's Couture Show
Stéphane Rolland kept colour simple in his spring/summer 2012 haute couture collection for Paris Fashion Week, sticking to a palette of only white, black, lime green and red.
Monochrome set the trend as models opened the show in basic black and white numbers, with many of the dresses exhibiting the designer's talent for using shape to maximum effect.
The French designer's distinctive style was also reflected in floor-length dresses with drooping necklines, interesting cuts and lots of floating fabric.
Box-like shapes, ruffled tops and an abundance of décolletage demonstrated the attention to detail applied to the upper bodice across most of the garments.
A touch of gold was splashed across the black and white pieces in the form of shiny belts, necklaces and other accessories attached to the chest and shoulders.
The use of block colours, including generous layers of fabric, square shapes and off-the-shoulder designs in red and lime green, also added a dash of colour to the show.
But the standout piece of the collection was a bright red long-sleeved dress with an extending train. Former model Yasmin Le Bon wore the dress and walked down the catwalk at a snail's pace. She even needed two men to help her get the dress down the runway.
The show-stopping frock that left onlookers in awe was made from silk jersey and weighs 50 kilograms (110 pounds). An assortment of lacquered metal panels decorated the front of the dress from the bustier down to the bottom of the skirt.
At its longest point, the fabric measured an incredible 45 metres long.
Rolland received a standing ovation from the crowd when he stepped out at the end of the show to acknowledge his collection.
